Cardi B is our 2017 Queen — the rapper has broken yet another record, this time dethroning the legendary Lauren Hill!
It should come as no surprise that she did it with her hit single "Bodak Yellow." The track has gotten universal acclaim and is being played non-stop in clubs and on the radio all over the country. Hell, even Janet Jackson sampled it for a show:
The track landed her at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 three weeks ago, making her the first female rapper to claim the spot (without featuring male artists) since Hill did it back in ’98 with "Doo Wop (That Thing)."
And since it’s held the top spot for three weeks running, Cardi B now hold’s the record for the longest running #1 for a female rapper in history — Hill stayed there for just two weeks.
Cardi captioned the above IG post with, "I been having such a sentimental sad day today 😞But I feel sooo much better now .Thank you everybody for streaming and buying and sharing BODAK YELLOW 😘😘THIRD WEEK"
But that’s not the only title Cardi’s aiming to knock off. If next week rolls around and she’s still on the literal top of the charts, she’ll have dethroned T. Swift and "Look What You Made Me Do" for the longest-running #1 of any female artist in 2017. So it’s an understatement to say that our girl is killing it!
Besides being the overwhelming biggest hit of fall 2017, "Bodak Yellow" has already won a BET Hip Hop Award and gone platinum. Is there nothing this song — and its artist — can’t do?!
