Hear ye, hear ye: NeNe Leakes does NOT want to be associated in any way, shape, or form with a Mr. Tyrone Gilliams.
The 50-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta star had reacted pretty defensively when Kandi Burruss suggested she once dated the imprisoned scammer on Sunday's episode of the hit Bravo reality show, telling her fellow Housewives that Gilliams is "not my man, he’s not my friend, he’s not my cousin, he's not my neighbor."
"Whenever you bring up the name Tyrone, direct it to Shereé Whitfield," NeNe added, referring to the Atlanta housewife who's currently dating Gilliams.
So why was NeNe so defensive? Why did she react so strongly when Tyrone's name was brought up? BravoTV got the official scoop in a new interview with Ms. Leakes.
"I reacted that way because I was sick and tired of being connected to somebody that I have no real history with," she explained. "This man is a real criminal, and I don’t take that lightly! Just look him up."
We did: Gilliams was sentenced to a decade in prison in 2013 for running a $5 million Ponzi scheme, as The Daily Pennsylvanian reported.
NeNe had met Gilliams at some point during her two-year split from her husband Gregg, but let's be clear: nothing ever happened between them.
"Look, I’m very open and honest about my past," NeNe told BravoTV. "I have nothing to hide, but even if there was anything there romantically, I could freely speak on it because it was before Shereé and during my breakup with Gregg. This much I can tell you: I never pursued Tyrone, and I never thought he was attractive. I can also tell you that the couple of times I was around him, something wasn’t right! However, I do think he’s the PERFECT guy for Shereé. A total match!"
Nene had previously addressed the rumors of her relationship with Gilliams on #RHOA After Show following Sunday's episode: When asked by producers whether Gilliams finds "uncomfortable" sexy — a reference to Shereé's extravagant Marlo Hampton-styled photoshoot — Leakes held nothing back.
"I'm sure he'll find anything sexy," she said. "He's in prison."
